Anthony Burgess

 

Anthony Burgess (Harpurhey, Manchester, Inglaterra, 1917 - St. John's Wood, Londres, 1993), escritor y compositor.

Su obra A Clockwork Orange está considerada una de las cien mejores novelas de la literatura británica. Ya sabes que Kubrik la convirtió en la película La naranja mecánica, lo que le dio mucha más fama al libro. ¿Sabías que para escribir el libro se inspiró en un suceso trágico que padeció su esposa durante la guerra?

A parte de esta obra, es autor del cuarteto de Enderby (cuatro novelas de humor: Inside Mr Enderby, Enderby Outside, The Clockwork Testament; or, Enderby's End y Enderby's Dark Lady, or, No End to Enderby), The End of the World News (Poderes terrenales), The Wanting Seed, Honey for the Bears, One Hand Clapping, The Eve of Saint Venus (teatro), The Long Day Wanes (La Trilogía Malaya: Time for a Tiger, The enemy in the Blanket y Beds in the East, y relacionada con ella, Devil of a State), Byrne, The Kingdom of the Wicked, Tremor of Intent: An Eschatological Spy Novel, The Doctor is Sick, The Right of an Answer, The Worm and the Ring, Beard's Roman Women... 

También escribió guiones cinematográficos.

Una de las películas más divertidas de la historia es «Arsénico por compasión» («Arsenic and Old Lace»).

🙂 ¿Sabías que está basada en una pieza teatral de Joseph Kesselring? ¿Y que a su vez esta obra de teatro se basa en una novela de Myrtle Reed («Lavender and Old Lace»)? Myrtle Redd, también conocida como Olive Green (como autora de libros de cocina), se suicidó con 36 años.
